Dr. Gift Kamangathole

Dr. Gift Kamangathole is a Malawian academic and researcher specialised in forestry, forest protection and natural resource management.

He serves as a Lecturer in Forest Protection at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) within the Bunda College of Agriculture. Prior to his role at LUANAR, he spent nearly two decades as a lecturer and trainer at the Malawi College of Forestry and Wildlife (MCFW) in Dedza, where he also helped design educational toolkits for environmental sustainability.

His research focuses on forest biodiversity conservation, tree allometry and mitigating ecological pests. Notable peer-reviewed work includes studying how forested field margins help reduce Fall Armyworm infestation and leaf damage in adjacent Malawian maize fields.

He has investigated how specific Eucalyptus species seedlings at the Bunda Forest Reserve handle attacks from the Red Gum Lerp Psyllid pest, and developed mathematical allometric equations to measure the above-ground biomass of Eucalyptus camaldulensis plantations in Malawi.

He has also evaluated the impacts of harvesting age and seasonal changes on the oil yield of Corymbia citriodora leaves in Northern Malawi.
